Home stretch....
Well I can see the finish line! Hopefully finish over Thanksgiving break. I have two errors showing up and yet those errors do not affect the game at all. I tried to follow the errors, but I can't figure them out! I am interested to see how well my game is received by the fellow classmates. I wonder how everyone else is doing too. I have been working some with Shirley on hers and she is doing an awesome job as well. I love her game! Not to give it away, but I love the simplicity in her game.

Steady as she goes...
As if I am driving a ship (which I have never had the pleasure of doing), I continue to chug my way. Slow going, but I am nearing the end. I have all the pieces except for a few drawings in place. The last parts will be simple yet time consuming. I see no glitches as of now, but things in the gaming world seem to change often. GIGO is a term I learned a long time ago and Flash is a good application for that term. GIGO-Garbage In Garbage Out. Basically with computers they don't think and don't make mistakes... the users do ... so if there is a mistake there was a mistake in the input of information. Flash loves to yell at me LOL... I currently have two errors in the errors block, but they do not hinder the game in any way. GO JOE! lol

Problem Solved!
Ok I have solved my problem of switching levels. I know and understand actionscript a whole lot more too. I coach basketball and often talk about kids eventually it just clicks for them they get it. Well actionscript clicked for me and I understand it a lot more, so I solved my problem. I needed to add "if" statements so the game knew at different points to do something else.
Example: I now have a statement that says "if" current levels is 1 then do this. Its more complex than that, but thats the basic way its done. I then added a level tracker much like the way you track your score. When the level changes so does what happens. I have other statements that say "else if" do this. So if something is going on but it changes th else if statement redirects the game what to do.

Progress...
Well I have made some progress in my game... I now figured out the way to get the game to move to the next level, BUT I can't stop the current level baddies from dropping. I thought the stop(); function stopped the current code, but no. I am stuck I suppose just because I do not know actionscript 2 that well.
Goal is to at least finish all the stages designs. I have the first 2 complete...but the lack of being able to stop one code and start the next is irritating me. Not sure why the code continues outside an area where the code is actually written.

Wiki 2 "I did it for the Wiki"
Well today was interesting as we started the second half of our Wiki class. Wow, did we all forgot stuff such as logins. I have some changes to make to my game and I feel confident that this will be a decent game when I am complete. I am adding a new art style, and some Villains. I think the most difficult part of teaching people about in home air pollutants is the same as any other game, too much verbage or words. I don't think people start playing a game and want to read a wall of text to learn something. My goal is to create villains and then add those to their own page, which will allow a person to have fun and want to find out more about the villain to beat him/her!

Final Game Plans
My final game plans are to finish the stages and add more sounds and some more animations. Such as the background on one stage has a grandfather clock, I want to try and make the pendulum on it move back forth just to add some character to the game.
Next semester will be a blast!

Finished Demo
After working several hours over the weekend I was able to finish my demo today. I must say that the hit detection is not working quite right and I am going to have a couple of people look at it tomorrow and see if they can help. I can get consistent hits standing still and when they hit the face of the hero. None anywhere else.
Overall good experience, challenging, fun, and educational. I have some ideas for some fun games to do on my own.

Day 10
Not sure why we are blogging about this today, but here it goes. A new idea or concept I have? I have come to know the different in home air pollutants since beginning this project. I have gone home since then and checked my own house for these pollutants. Sources I used for this were websites. I searched different websites for the top 10 in home pollutants. I found several websites on the subject and basically all were the same. Some listed others higher than some, but the top ten remained the same.
They are very informative because most people don't consider the stuff as bad for you, or that they even exist. For instance radon is unnoticeable to the senses and you need a test kit to test for it. The sites are pretty trustworthy as a couple were government sites and a few others were .orgs.
Over all I am glad with my decision to do a game about "In Home Air Quality and You"

Catching Game Ideas
Well I decided at this point to make a catching game. I believe it will be easiest to make, play, and get the point across in a very fun manner. I posted this pic of a catching game and I really liked the way the person created what happens. You get points for catching eggs and putting them in the basket. You also got bonus points for catching chocolate bunnies. I really like that the eggs hit the ground and burst open, a chick, baby chick, is inside and chirps and runs off the screen. I will probably incorporate the objects changing into something and maybe something dropping the items instead of my original thought of them just randomly coming out.
This has also given me an idea to expand my game. One, you have to catch the eggs then put them into the basket to get credit. I could make the pollutants fall and then have the player have to discard them. For example: I could have radon falling, the player catches them and then has to take them to a vent and vent the radon gases.

Game Idea
*enter Americas Most Wanted theme music* Update! I have an idea for a flash game and now to Blog about it. First who am I designing the game for? Honestly anyone who wants to learn about and better your in home air quality.
My game will teach about the top 10 sources of indoor air pollution in the home.
The game will happen in a home. This setting will add to the learning experience by focusing on the parts of the house the pollution occur. For example carbon monoxide my come from a gas furnace.
The game world will be used to remedy the problems as well. For instance the player may be armed with vents that they add to vent the radon gas. They will also have to test first for the presence of radon gas. Without the tester the player wont know what's going on because the gas is odorless tasteless and so forth.
It is better than a quiz because the player will not need to do much reading and will have more fun!

Mini Game Creations
Well today we completed our mini game in flash. It was not hard per say, just time consuming. The best part is I now have tons of ideas about games racing through my head :) .... The worst part about creating a game? Well if you make a mistake the lines of code that you have to check can be frustrating. I have a feeling though the more you work with it the better you can become at it.

My topic chosen...
Hi my name is Joe. I have been a chess player since 4th grade. My father taught me how to play in the 4th grade. I used my high school years to research the game and read plenty of books on the strategies and philosophy of the game. I love games in general and to me games, including chess, keep the mind sharp. In fact in order to be a good chess player your mind and your body need to be in good shape.
I had to come up with a topic for my game. It took a while, but I believe I came up with that topic.
Well after careful consideration I chose to make my topic on a game, "How to play chess." I often hear people ask me if I could teach them how to play or they wish they could play. I will be making a simple flash game to teach people how to set the board up and ho the pieces move. Beyond that I may add in some simple challenges to see if they understand the piece movement and to get them started in the right direction on how to play.

Game Genre for Globaloria
I was thinking about it and decided that my genre will be strategy games. I chose this one because to me the best learning is when you have to think about what you are doing and then live with your actions. Strategy does just that.

Gump Knows Internet Privacy
"Lieutenant Dan got me invested in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him, saying we don't have to worry about money no more. And I said, that's good! One less thing." Forrest Gump and technology go hand in hand. Of course Forrest was talking about an Apple computer. With todays grand age of technology and the sense of security when we are using technology we tend to give information freely. For instance we sign up for email accounts and social media using our full names. This is not a very safe practice for one as someone can easily find you and exploit that information. "Momma always said stupid is as stupid does," indeed! Thank you Mr. Gump for your infinite wisdom. We need to remember what ever we write, post, or give on the web, information wise, needs to not be too much information. We need to remember that information posted on the internet is not secure and safe. It is open to anyone who has access or gets access. If you would not tell someone in person the information you are going to post then don't post it! As my great friend Forrest Gump would always say, "That's all I got to say about that!"

May 16, 2011 Globaloria Day 1+2
I hope to create a demo for a very fun yet educational game using the programs provided to us. I have no idea at this moment what my game will be about. I am most excited about being able to create stuff using flash and I hope to use that knowledge in my own personal life to create some fun stuff. I am not really scared bout anything other than maybe the time crunch, but fear would be the wrong word to use. This ought to be a great experience and something I can share with friends I have in the gaming community.
